It’s that time of year again. The time of year that I am in full planning mode for our upcoming school year. I have to admit I am way behind on the ballgame this year. Our house is in full baby planning mode and with being so sick the last few months, school planning became a distant thought. It has taken 19 weeks to feel semi-normal again, but I am just about there. Praise God!
I am doing some more switching around this year. This seems to be a theme for me. After evaluating where my kiddos are this year, I feel it is best to go back to some more “traditional school” curriculum in a couple of subjects. I just see some gaps that need to be filled.
I am hoping to start school a bit earlier than normal this year. With the baby coming the first of December it would be nice to take the entire month off. Especially with the holidays….bringing a new baby home in the midst of the holiday hustle and bustle, I think we could all use a nice break the month of December.
Granted, to start school early would mean that I need to actually get my curriculum ordered. Not to mention that in order to order the curriculum, I actually need to finalize what we are using. See I told you…I am way behind this year.
I find the planning process to be one of my favorite parts of homeschooling. I am a curriculum junkie, and love flipping through new books and catalogs. However, I know the process can also be very stressful for some. Don’t stress! Pray and ask the Lord for guidance, and he will help you iron out all those little details.
Another tip is to remember the best curriculum doesn’t always have the highest price tag. Great things can be found in inexpensive packaging. As a mom homeschooling 4 kiddos right now, I understand that budget plays a big part in what we choose. Sometimes we may want that super expensive science set that we found. The great part about homeschooling is there are a ton of places where you can find gently used books for half the price.
As I am praying about our new school year, I would love to pray for your’s as well. What challenges are you facing as you plan this upcoming year? What curriculum choices are your favorite this year?
